Start date: Jan 5, 2015, End date: Jun 5, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The residents of the EU feel tangibly the influence of its establishments on themselves daily. Despite the fact that the EU and its directives aim to bring closer and citizens, and especially the youth in their participation in the political process remains insufficient. They do not feel appropriately motivated due to the fact that they do not believe they can make difference in the development of their society. The aim of exchange “EU – This is You” is 25 young adults, including people with fewer opportunities, from different EU member countries to gather and realize their sense of belonging to the European community and to augment their motivation for participation. The youngsters will be guided in the development of their civil, political and social awareness and the build-up of their decision-making skills and critical thinking. The activities which will help them in achieving these goals will be divided in several working sessions. The topics are related to the role of the EU in the formation of a common European identity; the citizenship as an interaction between the individual and the society; the problems of our social and political life. The participants are also going to meet representatives of the local community, such as local government members, NGO activists and other citizens. The methods which we are going to use are mostly non-formal – discussions, brainstorming, team work, simulations, image theatre, etc. As a result of the project activities the youngsters will become more motivated and will gain important skills and knowledge, which will help them to be vital members of the civil society. The youngsters will realize their important role in the community will build their own set of views and will be encouraged to contribute to the positive change in life. Through the intercultural dialogue the participants will discover their common values and similar interests and will think how to develop together a democratic, harmonic society, built on the principles of the cultural, economic and spiritual growth of its members. While meeting the representatives of the local community, the youngsters will understand the importance of the youth inclusion in the decision-making process on local, national and European level. The long-term benefits will be the perspectives for future cooperation, the application of the exchanged ideas into new project proposals.
