EU External Action
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2019 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project aims to study and critically reflect on the role played by the EU in international relations. For that purpose, attention will be paid to the evolution, not only of the main EU external policies, but also to the external dimension of key internal policies such as the internal maket, migration and asylum. Furthermore, many EU international negotiations post-Lisbon have attracted heightened scrutiny and concern for their impact upon EU’s democratic values and fundamental rights. This has lead to an increasingly sensitive public opinion regarding the role of the EU in international relations. The added value is given by providing in-depth teaching activities for the bachelor, master and PhD students of the Faculty of Law and including the research of the best specialists in the field from Spain and other EU countries. In addition, specific teaching activities will be organized targeting the civil society and civil servants, academics, lawyers and judges coming from Latin American countries. Guest lectures, workshops and roundtble debates will be programmed at the begining of each semester in a coherent and systematic manner. These events will be linked to the research activities programmed by the Global Governance Institute of the University of Salamanca. Two research activities will be organized focusing on two key issues: the external dimension of migration and asylum and democratic control and EU external action. These research activities will have clear benefits both for the actors involved in the formulation and implementation of EU policies and Member States. The project responds to an identified need to develop the study and research in the field of EU external action at the University of Salamanca. The combination of the activities organized by the Chair in conjunction with the celebration of eighth centenary of the University in 2018 will produce a genuinely important multiplying effect to the promotion of EU Studies.
