EU-China youth policy dialogue
Start date: Sep 1, 2011,

The main objective of the EU-China Youth Policy Dialogue is to establish a constructive Policy Dialogue on EU-China Relations between young people with a keen interest in China-EU affairs. Involving youth representatives in policy-making processes will empower them, while raising their awareness and their understanding of developments and. practices in EU-China relations. It is also the project's intention to provide policy-makers and other relevant stakeholders with policy recommendations drafted by the participants of the Youth Policy Dialogues, providing an instrument to improve policy measures according to the views and needs of young people. The project will organise two EU-China Youth Policy Dialogues, of which one will take place in Brussels and one in Chengdu. The Brussels Policy Dialogue will tackle the issues of Climate Change, Environment and Youth Policy, whereas the one in Chengdu will focus on Urbanisation, (Youth) Unemployment, Social Challenges (Education, Health, the Ageing Society,..) and EU-China Relations in a broader perspective. Both Policy Dialogues will consist of a three-day workshop, followed by a public event, presenting the results and outcome of the Policy Dialogues together with a list of Policy Recommendations for stakeholders and policy-makers involved. The Policy Dialogues will each involve 35 youth representatives from China and the EU. Conversely, the public events will involve 100 additional participants with a keen interest in EU-China Relations and the specific topics involved. The selection of the participants of the Youth Policy Dialogues will be carried out by a wide-spread call for papers, aiming specifically at young people below 35 years old with a good knowledge of English and a keen interest in EU-China Relations or one of the specific topics prioritised by the project. On the basis of the applicants' papers and profiles, a selection committee will identify the required number of participants for each policy dialogue. The final selection will be made at an internal setup meeting in Beijing, taking into account gender, age, expertise, experience and background of the applicants in order to obtain a balanced group of participants. The final results of the Youth Policy Dialogues will be presented at the Final Round-up Conference in Brussels, followed by a publication which will include a selection of papers, reports of the Policy Dialogues as well as Policy Recommendations on the specific topics tackled by the project. All information on the project will be available on the website of the project and will be distributed through the networks of EIAS and CAES, in addition to other significant stakeholders.
