Ethno Training
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

In the 2000s, the Kvarnen Joint Municipality has become an adult education institution with a strong international character. Students come from Europe, Asia, Africa and North & South America. They represent 35 different nationalities and speak around 40 different languages. This puts great demands on the entire staff, both the educational and other staff. The organization must now find its way after having become, in a short period of time, a multi-cultural organization. It must be able to provide good service both for different immigrant groups and other Finns. It also has to work long-term to prevent racism and promote interest in other cultures. The organization therefore need a greater understanding of diverse communities, different languages, cultures, traditions and history. By participating in the European training, in courses and seminars, the entire staff contributes to promoting quality and innovative learning and working practices. It also needs new knowledge of multicultural solutions in administration, management, development, and project management. Through the European mobility and related activities, the Kvarnen organization will in the future be able to offer tailor-made, multi-cultural training solutions of high quality. The entire staff will participate in a course and a seminar in Romania in 2015, dealing with diverse communities and minority and majority issues within European society. Beyond this, all staff groups separately participate in European training to enhance specific areas of competence. The Kvarnen Joint Municipal staff will increase its level of knowledge and professional skills and the organization will be able to produce higher quality in education, counseling and supporting services. The students will gain access to new, innovative and creative methods of learning from a staff working with inspiration and determination from the point of view of a multicultural education organization. The project will improve the immigrants chances to integrate locally, regionally and nationally. At European and international level, the project offers participants insight into learning and working in other countries, which in turn provides students with skills and knowledge needed to become active global citizens.
