Et maintenant on se bouge !
Start date: Aug 1, 2016, End date: Mar 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The village of Bages (Aude) has been twinned for 10 years with the Palestinian village of Jalboun in the West Bank. Our project is to bring together, in Palestine, young people from France (living in Bages and in the socially deprived areas of Narbonne and Carcassonne) and youngsters from Jalboun. We have called our project « And now we get a move on! » which means « We stop blaming other groups or situations for our own individual issues or collective difficulties, and we get on with it in order to change things. » The project will involve 24 boys and girls, aged 18 to 25, and will take place from 20th October to 2nd November 2016 in Jalboun and in the occupied West Bank. The twinning committee will work in partnership on this project at a local level with ABP (Accompagner Bâtir Prévenir) and in Palestine with JASON, our partner organisation since 2009.These young people are from three different cultural backgrounds : youngsters from the less affluent parts of Narbonne and Carcassonne, young people from a village (Bages), and young Palestinians. This cultural diversity, and the fact that they will meet up in the « occupied territories » of Palestine, are at the heart of the project because for these young people the meaning of « living together » will be in question. For the young participants, the main results of this project will be to increase their self-reliance and understanding of another culture, develop their personality, enable them to travel and, for the French youngsters to gain a better understanding of the Israelo-Palestinian issue. For the partner groups (ABP and JASON), this project is their first experience of Erasmus+ and will probably give rise to further projects with EVS. The twinning committee, for its part, has already set up a branch in Toulouse, the new regional capital, and will use this project to develop its network and is soon to organise a seminary, bringing together representatives of various Euro-Mediterranean organisations. In Jalboun, the group will live together in the « Maison pour Tous » (communal home) and will take charge of the necessary everyday running of the place (cooking, cleaning etc.) They will share some aspects of village life. This fundamental pedagogical framework of responsibility and exchange with their peers will be further enriched by meetings with Palestinian cultural organisations, visits to sites of historical and symbolic interest, Jerusalem in particular, and by creational activities (frescoes, theatre workshop) under professional supervision. Our experience tells us that carrying through such a large-scale project will undoubtedly facilitate a positive forward-looking attitude and widen the horizons of the young participants.
