More Europe at School: foreign language qualificationThe one year project aims to support the foreign language qualification of teachers in order to enhance the participation of colleagues in European projects, which often demand a good command of English. Therefore teachers, who don´t teach languages, often don´t feel ready to take part. In order to extend the group of people, who can participate in European projects feeling confident using the English language, five colleagues should be enabled to improve their communication skills in English by taking part in a 2 weeks language course. The trained teachers then should plan and realize international projects at school. Half of the course should take part during the holidays, the other half during term. By means of that only a few lessons would be cancelled. As the Europaschule Köln offers bilingual lessons in several subjects and wants to expand in this field, the trained teachers could also contribute to bilingual modules and courses at our school, so that students could benefit from a differeciated offer of learning in their bilingual school career. We expect that the participants- by taking part in a language training (English) - will be enabled to prepare and realize European projects. It is planned to apply for two KA2 – projects for our school. Experience shows that feeling insecure about one´s English skills might lead to not feeling confident enough to take part in a project although being very interested in international projects. We want to encourage and win our colleagues by giving them the chance to improve their English skills. In the longer term the goal of the project is that colleagues- after their training- can be involved in international projects in a better way because of their language qualification. At the same time the school can encourage more teachers of a greater variety of subjects to participate in projects. In addition the school wants to develop bilingual modules in different subjects in order to expand the offer of subjects tought in English. In order to achieve this goal other teachers must be qualified in different fields within the next years.
