Erste Schritte zur Internationalisierung der Sekundarschule Warstein
Start date: Aug 15, 2016, End date: Aug 14, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Sekundarschule Warstein is a secondary school which started in 2014. It currently consists of year 5 and 6 with 173 pupils aged 10 to 12 taught by 20 teachers. In both years we practise inclusive education and the number of pupils with migrant background is constantly growing. All pupils learn English as a second language and French and Spanish are optional. Our school has applied for being approved as "School Without Racism". We haven't established any contacts to schools in Europe so far and it is the aim of this project to give our pupils an understanding of the European dimension. The project is a pilot project which helps us to take the first steps towards internationalisation of the Sekundarschule Warstein. First of all it is about new methods and principles of teaching in foreign language teaching, to cope with the growing diversity in our forms and about the education of respect and tolerance towards people of different cultures. The knowledge of new media is the basis for cross-border communication. Our school despatches two English teachers to Oxford to attend a further education course in order to extend their knowledge in the areas given above. One of them is an experienced colleague, who has been teaching since 1996 and has organised and accompanied numerous school trips abroad at different schools. The other colleague has started teaching in 2014 and has been very comitted since. For both teachers it is important to implement the European idea at our school.Subsequent to the further education abroad, the two teachers will share their newly acquired knowledge with their colleagues and coordinate the introduction of eTwinning in suitable forms. It requires pupils who are able to use the new media resposibly and are willing to communicate in English. This project will motivate and inspire our colleagues concerning their work with pupils and parents. The implementation of intercultural aspects and the usage of creative teaching methods will help to educate the pupils to be tolerant and respectful and to encourage them to use the English language as a means of communication in order to acquire knowledge. The implementation of the European idea will strengthen our innovative profile and will have a lasting effect on our school.
