With the project "The consultative work at the special school" we create new methodologies to a special school. Kajaanintulli school is a special school, part of the comprehensive education of the city of Oulu. The other unit offers special education for pupils with behavioural problems or psychic or neuropsychiatric problems. The other unit is a hospital school which offers education for children who are patients in the Oulu University Hospital. The inclusion and the district model in the education in Oulu have changed the role of a special school a lot. The special school is expected to offer the education for the pupils who need very strong support and also to offer consultative support for all the schools in Oulu and the hospital region. In the future our role is to operate as a resource center. In recent years we have trained our personnel to the consultative work. At the same time we have started giving consultative support to other schools. Concerning the teaching in the hospital, the law obliges us to consult the school when a pupil is returning to his own school. With the project we want to educate our personnel to develop the inclusion, special education and the consultation. Inclusion and resource centers are a common thing all over Europe. At the same time we want to access and explore other schools in Europe, their special education and resource centers and consultative work. Attending the international congress of hospital teaching we will co-operate developing the hospital teaching worldwide. The representatives of our personnel will attend the international congress of hospital teaching in Romania. The headmaster will attend a seminar for headmasters from Nordic countries in Iceland. The representatives of the personnel will attend international seminars concerning inclusion, special education and consultative work. The representatives of the personnel will attend job shadowing to explore the inclusion, special education and the resource centers. Those who attend the seminars and the job shadowing will share the knowledge with all the personnel. By comparing experiences we will develop our methods and improve them.
