Erasmus +
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our Primary School “San Antonio de Portaceli” is a bilingual center where two subjects are being taught in English; these being Social Science and Art. Because of that we feel the necessity of improving our linguistic skills so that we can offer quality models of learning to our students. English teachers usually find that they don’t have enough methodological resources with respect to CLIL approach, so we consider that with this project we have an excellent opportunity to become more proficient in this field. Innovative methodologies will, for sure, make our students’ motivation increase and therefore results will tend to be better. Our staff is currently composed of twenty teachers, six of them (the English specialists and the Music specialist) have already reached B2 level in English according to the Common European Framework of Reference for languages and are trying to get the C1. The rest of the staff is attending lessons at the Official School of Languages of our city in order to reach the B1 level. With the participation in this project we aim to encourage our staff to improve their competence in the foreign language and the teaching of non-linguistic contents through English. That fact will have a very positive effect on the quality of the education that we offer to our pupils. The process of selection of teachers will be clear. For the moment, there are twelve teachers that are truly interested in participating in this type of formation travelling abroad. The main fields which the formation will focus are: - Improvement of the linguistic competence in English, according the Common European Framework of Reference for languages. - CLIL methodology and educational techniques to teach non-linguistic subjects through English. - Innovation and ICT in the teaching of languages. We have selected the organization ITC INTERNATIONAL in Brighton (United Kingdom) and English Matters in Dublín as it offers a great variety of courses that include the objectives we aim. Concretely the courses that better adapt to our necessity are: -English for Educators and admin staff - B1 -English for Educators and admin staff - B2 -CLIL - Content and Language Integrated Learning -Teaching grammar can be fun. - Innovative approaches to teachers It is fundamental that teachers become more competent in the foreign language, especially with regard to communicative competence as well as the use of innovative methodologies. Linguistic immersion in a foreign country is also essential for increasing significant learning both, linguistic and cultural. Thanks to this formation we will be able to easily design material or have access to resources, strategies and techniques that would have an impact on the quality of the teaching-learning process, not only in the English language subject but in all of them. Along the project the teachers are going to hold periodic meetings so that we can share the new materials and information; moreover, these meeting will serve as feedback opportunities and an opinion exchange space. As a result, we will establish common methodological criteria to be followed by all the teachers since the very first stage of schooling of our students; since we consider it particularly important. Our final goal within this project is to give our school a European dimension; there is a strong commitment of the staff to imply all the members of the educational community and make this experience known.
