Start date: Jul 4, 2016, End date: Jan 3, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Improving citizens’ abilities and reducing early school leaving are Romania’s key priorities and essential measures for attaining the goals of Europe 2020 Strategy with a view to ensuring sustainable growth favourable to inclusion through the promotion of an economy with a high rate of employment. In this respect, “the challenge for vocational and technical training, as well as for the technological training, lower secondary and post-secondary cycles, is to offer school leavers a high level of technical skills needed to enter the labour market and an adequate level of their general skills which could give them a firm starting point for continuing their educational and occupational career.”(Strategy for reducing early school leaving, p.61). However, teaching in the classroom is not enough as a method in the tech.sec. education. In order to obtain good results, “Costache Conachi” Tech.High School from Pechea, Galati county, needs to provide its students the conditions necessary for their vocational training, pers. development and developing linguistic and intercultural competences. This means for the school calling on economic operators and trying to get them involved in the process of vocational training, especially for the subjects in the Local Development Curriculum. It also means offering its students (young people from Pechea and the neighbouring rural areas who come from families with modest incomes) opportunities for learning foreign languages, knowing and getting into contact with other peoples’ cultures, with European values. It means a better training of teachers for using innovative pedagogy and computer technology in an optimal manner. These challenges/needs find an answer in the project “Erasmus +, New Opportunities in Present for the Future “, whose objectives are:0.1 Acquiring the skills and competences mentioned in the Romanian curriculum, team work, preparing for integration in the workplace and the transition from school to the workplace of 66 students from “Costache Conachi” Tech.High School in order to enhance employability;0.2 Practising and improving technical skills specific to the domains of Textile industry, Commerce or Mechanics through vocational activities and professional training in other countries, up to a level that would make easier the transition from school to active professional life, preparing them for continuing their education and for their professional career;0.3 Improving communication competence in a foreign language and the capacity to understand interculturality in order to be able to use in the future the opportunities offered by UE to its citizens;0.4 Broadening professional skills and personal development of six teachers from “Costache Conachi” Tech. High School, engineers and economists, through activities of job shadowing in institutions of teaching/training from other countries in order to improve student specialized training component and increase their performance;0.5 Developing solid partnerships in order to facilitate geographical and professional mobility and to enhance employability for European youth. In order to achieve the goals proposed, the project was designed to be run over a period of 18 months for the following domains:- Textile and leather industry – 15 stud. from tech. sec. educ, 10th grade;- Mechanics – 21 stud.from tech. sec.educ, 10th grade;- Commerce – 15 stud. from tech.sec.educ. and 15 stud. from voc.educ, 10th grade;- Also, ensuring professional training of six teachers from the tech. educ. profile through act.of job shadowing. The professional training of the participating stud. will take place in companies and voc. training centres in Portugal and Poland in five flows, each training session lasting 21 days for the stud. from tech. sec. educ, and 35 days for the stud. from voc. education:- January 2017 – Flow 1- 15 stud. – Textile industry, technician in textile industry + Flow 2 – 15 stud.– Commerce, technician in commercial activities;- May-June 2017 – Flow 3 – Mechanics, CAD technician;- June – July 2017 – Flow 4 – 15 stud. – Commerce, merchant seller.- Teacher training will be achieved in a 12 day flow – Flow 6, through job-shadowing act. in Poland, partner – CKP.The content of the training prog. was established by the Engineering Department of “Costache Conachi” Tech.High School together with representatives of the Portuguese and Polish partners so as to be in strong correlation with the curriculum, the Local Development Curriculum and the Professional Training Standards.
