REFERENCE: 564522-EPP-1-2015-1-ES-EPPKA1-JMD-MOB_MAIATITLE: Medical Image Analysis and Computer Aided Diagnosis Systems, MAIAObjectiveMedical Image Analysis and Computer Aided Diagnosis Systems, in close development with new imaging techniques, have revolutionized healthcare in recent years, allowing doctors to achieve a more efficient and early diagnosis and a better treatment. Technology behind those systems stems from research areas in computer science such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, image processing and sensors and acquisition. The aim of the Master in Medical Imaging and Applications (MAIA) is the application of these areas for the specification, design, development of computer systems for the acquisition, analysis and interpretation of medical images with the aim of achieving a more efficient diagnosis and treatment.Course durationTwo years (120 ECTS credits).Brief descriptionThe MAIA is a 2-years joint master degree coordinated by the University of Girona (UdG, Spain), offered together with the University of Bourgogne (uB, France) and the Università degli studi di Cassino e del Lazio Meridionale (UNICLAM, Italy) as partners; and with the Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP, Malaysia) as an associated partner. The mobility between these partners has been organized in line with the educational progress scheme: the university where the students will be trained each semester has been chosen by taking into account the expertise, research/educational facilities and the equipment of each institution. The master is structured in four semesters: during the 1st semester students study at uB the introductory subjects on image processing and medical imaging; during the 2nd semester they all move to UNICLAM for more advanced subjects in computer vision and pattern recognition. In the 3rd semester they visit UdG for applied modules on computer aided diagnosis and medical applications. The role of the associated partner Petronas Technology University (UTP, Malaysia) is to complement the contents of those semesters through specific short courses and seminars done in the consortium institutions by expert staff from UTP. Finally, during the 4th semester, students do their master's thesis in any of the universities of the consortium, at UTP or in any other HEI in the field. The thesis is defended in a public VIVA with a common jury from the three partner universities.Career prospectsThe medical technology industry has detected a growing need of expert graduates in this field. In order to enhance students' employability, MAIA proposes the development of master's thesis in collaboration with companies and research labs so as to allow students to get in contact with the private sector and the academia. The day after the presentation of the master's thesis, the MAIA industrial day takes place. It represents an opportunity for companies to be involved in MAIA by proposing topics and specific needs but also to provide internships and job offers to the students. An international experienceMAIA students can study in three different European countries and are taught cultural modules with language facilities in each of the universities in order to develop language competences and a better awareness of the European project, culture and values. In this international environment, students carry out group mobilities to the several partner universities every semester in order to create an esprit de corps enhancing the integration to the master, intercultural awareness, self-empowerment and self-esteem of the students.DiplomaThe master will deliver a joint degree issued by the Universitat de Girona and recognised by all consortium members.Websitehttp://maiamaster.udg.edu/
