EPISCHOOL – pokonajmy bariery razem!
Start date: Oct 1, 2015, End date: Sep 30, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The aim of the Project is to bring up a serious problem - epilepsy among children and teenagers at school. This problem touches not only persons with the disease, but also their teachers who not always are aware of the seriousness of the problem and are competent enough to cope with it. There are many examples of mistreating sick persons, such as forcing them to change school etc. By initializing our Project we would like to prove that being an epileptic at school does not mean being socially excluded. Together with specialists from Ireland and Czech Republic participating in the Project we would like to show primary and secondary school teachers how to behave and how to treat epileptic students. We divided our actions into 5 steps leading to publishing guidelines both for teachers and for children and organising a special training for PE teachers and educators. Our first action will be focus group interview for 1000 PE teachers and educators from Poland and Czech Republic (500 teachers from each country). They will be surveyed about their attitude towards students with epilepsy. The outcomes will be summarized by specialists and will be put in a special report. It will be a base to work on a set of guidelines for primary and secondary school teachers to improve their attitude and knowledge about interaction with epileptics at school. Next step will be organising a meeting for teachers from all the countries participating in the Project. They will discuss together on the draft of the guidebook for teachers and educators. These consultations will lead to create drafts of lessons, that will be helpful for teachers in their future work. Next step will be organising a conference, including a special training for teachers basing on the recently published guidebook. Meanwhile, the group of experts will be working on publishing a guide for students with epilepsy in three volumes: vol. 1 – for children aged 6-9 vol. 2 – 10-13 y.o., vol. 3 - 13-16 y.o. We will inform widely about the Project in the media – TV, radio and on the Internet. There will be also Facebook profile of the Project created.
