The Primary School of Linopetra was built in 1975 after the Turkish invasion, to accommodate the needs of children who lived with their families in the nearby governmental refugee campus. The school is located on the east side of Limassol, an area that in the recent years has shown rapid commercial and residential development. The majority of the students have a migrant background and they come from socioeconomically disadvantaged families. As a result of this background, a large number of them have language barriers, mainly at early school years. In addition, a lot of students face learning difficulties which have significant impact on the acquisition of literacy, numeracy and ICT skills. In many cases children exhibit aggressive behaviors, which often involve violent, angry or harmful actions (eg. bulling). A positive development is that school’s building and infrastructure are being upgraded and modernized, with new classes and Computer Laboratory, all of which will provide students a safer and more motivating educational environment. The strategic plan of the school has the following priorities: -Development of a cooperation network with other educational institutions for the ongoing collaboration and professional development of the teachers. -Exchange of experiences with educators from other counties on areas that are relevant to the use of ICT in the teaching process and the best use of the school laboratories. -In-service training of the teachers on the use of new teaching methods with the support of ICT. -In-service training in order to manage problem behaviors and bullying. -Contact with good practices and tested applications for the development of good interpersonal relationships among students that will eliminate bullying, racism and behavior problems. A team of five teachers that was formed after their personal interest to be involved in Action KA1 will participate to the educational seminars that have been chosen. This team is consisted of teachers who share a strong motivation for self-improvement. The relationships of the school teachers are characterized by respect, mutual support and cooperation, which in turn, enhance a positive school culture and a smooth operation of the school unit. All members of this team are very willing to upgrade their existing knowledge and skills in educational issues, enhance self-improvement and promote the teaching process. At the end, these teachers will act as multipliers of the knowledge, abilities, skills and attitudes that will be gained by their participation in the training seminars. To ensure the success of this effort, cooperation with all the stakeholders will be sought, with the rest of the teaching staff, the students, the parents, community members and experts on issues relevant to the training seminars. Cooperation with the aforementioned stakeholders will maximize the impact of the effectiveness of the training seminars in the best way possible. Regarding the methodology to be used in carrying out the project, it should be noted that the seminars that have been selected, are expected to contribute to the implementation of the school development plan and its priorities. In addition, regular communication with the providers before and after the seminar will ensure that everything is being implemented according to plan. Finally, the progress of the project will be monitored in order to ensure that activities, which will be carried out after the training course, will involve as many teachers and students as possible and will share the positive results with them. It is expected that after the completion of the program, the following two axes of the school action plan will be achieved: -Inclusion of all students into the teaching process, with an emphasis on managing problematic behaviors: The school seeks to create positive relationships between the teachers and the students. It also seeks to eliminate school bullying and create a new strategic plan with practices that will give all students the right to fully participate in school life. -Improvement of knowledge on the use and application of new teaching methods with an emphasis on the new technologies: Our school seeks to enhance the use of ICT in teaching and learning. Through the selected seminars, participants will have the opportunity to acquire adequate skills in the application of ICT in teaching and will be enable them to use new innovative teaching methods for the benefit of their students and themselves.
