Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

In the 21st century, the role of education, yet the role of teachers and schools is changing, and so are the expectations / requirements for effectiveness and efficiency. The increasing challenges and demands teachers are required to respond to, the need for the professional improvement of educators is an imperative. 2nd Dimotiko Sxolio Mileon-Kalon Neron Magnesia, which is located in a rural area in the municipality of South Pelion and approximately half of its students come from immigrant families of low socioeconomic and educational background, has envisioned and implemented a project for the educational development of the teachers. Based on the needs assessment we conducted in our school, it was shown that our needs are oriented towards the reinforcement of the school’s European dimension and the professional development of teachers, which both ultimately aim at improving the quality of education of our organization. The main area for improvement were found to be the acquisition of new teaching methods and tools and improvement of staff competences. Our organization implemented two european mobilities on 6-13/3/2016 at Florence Italy for the training activity "A Satisfactory School Experience: Strategies and Skills for teachers ". The participants have on average 15 years of teaching experience, are qualified in foreign languages and in ICT. Concerning the learning outcomes, the participants in our project acquired and improved the knowledge, skills and attitudes, which contribute to their professional development, the modernization of teaching methods and the internationalization of our school. They developed their professional, language and inter-cultural competences, cultivated positive attitudes towards lifelong learning and promoted innovation. They incorporated “best practices” and promoted future collaboration and networking with other European schools. Our school undertook all the necessary actions for the preparation, management and monitoring issues of the project, which had a very positive impact in and out the organisation (students, teachers, parents, educational community, local and educational authotrties). Last, our school implemented the dissemination of the project’s results through carefully designed activities such as press release, activity report toward stakeholders, presentation of final results to the regional Association of Teachers, reports and presentation of activities in relevant web pages and blogs, personal on-line social networks and professional groups. As far as the evaluation, it included activities of intermediate-formative and final assessment which included self assessment, reports, diaries and questionnaires. In the long run, we will assess the sustainability of the project.
