EnvironMentally Educated Tourist

‘EMET – EnvironMentally Educated Tourist’ is a Multilateral Partnership Project made up of five countries – Finland, Italy, Hungary, Poland, Estonia – aimed at educating the new generations in the spirit of safeguarding the environment. Since all our institutions offer tourism-oriented courses, we believe that it is important to train professional and responsible future operators in this sector. Tourism helps the economic development of a country, but it may also be a source of problems if there is not adequate preparatory education. Tourism that is at the same time ecologically sustainable can help in protecting the environment by adopting environmentally-friendly strategies and adapting local facilities.Every partner institution has identified a working group of students and teachers who have set up a pilot school-travel agency where they have been able to create a ‘business plan for green tourism’ and to innovate a common brand and marketing strategy creating an adequate brand name of their business. The outcome has been an open source web course on the Openmoodle from which the partners and those who are willing to will benefit in the future. To disseminate the results of the project, all materials developed have been presented to local/regional authorities and institutions specialising in tourism.
