In Europe, developments in Environmental Technology (ET) are dominated by Germany. This project sets out to equip environmental protection officers, as its primary target group, with German language training at intermediate and advanced levels in the field of ET. A multimedia training package will be developed for online (internet) and offline (CD-Rom) use. Twelve modules will be developed covering topics from 'air protection and exhaust purification' through to 'management of natural resources'. The training package will emphasise communication-oriented, work-based language training based upon the authentic use of appropriate materials. A pedagogical approach of blended language learning will be adopted in the development of the training package and teachers will be able to customise aspects of both the online and offline packages to suit the demands of their trainees. Teachers of specialist German language courses will be trained to use the CD-Rom in the partner countries. The pedagogic material and the multimedia training package will be piloted on students in Finland, France, Poland and Romania, with results from the piloting process informing the development of the project's end products. The project partnership will establish a transnational learner and tutor group that will enhance cooperative networking between language teachers of vocational German for ET. The project will create an EnTecNet website to provide comprehensive information and updates about the project. All project partners will take an active part in project dissemination for which use will be made of existing partner networks
