Teaching sustainable development is not a new thing in our curriculum, but too often the subject has been left too theoretical - especially on highschool level. Teaching environmental issues requires a variety of practical exercises and interesting projects, for learning via experiencing is known to be so much efficient than traditional lectures. Teaching environmental issues is in a right way his pivotal, because it sets the basis for the student´s environmantal thinking - of which the whole Earth´s future depends, basically. The more versatile the teachers´ methods are, the more interesting teaching and learning become. The course ´Environmental Education in Practise" seems to give right tools to teachers for planning teaching about environment in form of science projects, field trips or scientific experiments.Waldorf schools stress the importance of learning by doing and doing together. Also caring for the environment is always present in our curriculum. This course is exceptionally suitable for giving extra education for the teachers. From Rudolf Steiner School in Helsinki, the biology teacher will be attending this course. After the course he will be able to apply the outcome of the course directly for his biology lessons and field trips and pass the knowledge to other teachers, as well.Due to this course we are expecting our natural sciences classes and field trips to become more verstile and practical.
