Environment and Youth!
Start date: Jun 18, 2014, End date: Nov 18, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

Youth exchange EY! (Environment and Youth) involves 30 young people, aged between 15 and 20 and 4 youth workers, that live in rural areas in Spain and Slovenia. It will take place in Cerknica in August 2014. International engagement and ability to work in intercultural environment are becoming a neccesity, for successful development of the individual. Neverthless the Notranjsko-kraška region offers scarce opportunities for this kind of activities for youth living in the region. On the other hand social skills, like ability to communicate with different publics, team work, decision making, problem solving, intercultural dialogue ... are also becoming more and more important in nowadays society. Part of the youth exchange will aim to develop these skills among participants. We will achieve the development of mentioned skills through different outdoor activities, like orientation hikes, trips, interactive descovering of new places, sport activites, team games ... Participants expressed a need to include in youth exchange some themes about the environmental awareness of youth in different european countries. They are especially interested in investigating different views about the protection of water resources. Slovenian participants live in a region where water resources are especially volunerable due to the karst surface. Water is also one of the main sources of live and is becoming more and more treathened every year. Participants from Spain come from a much drier region, where the issues of clean (drinking) water are also becoming more obvious every year. This is why both groups want to work on these issues - compare their own views and search for some soloutions, they can apply in their everyday life as individuals and within their local community. Beside the individual learning outcomes in the field of social competences and solutions the participants will find for more sustainable way of life, the exchange will also have a great influence in the local community. As mentioned above there are not many similar opportunities for young people in Notranjsko-kraška region. This youth exchange will stand as an example of possibilities of youth in the local community and the region. Inhabitants will get informed about the international possibilities within the programme Erasmus + and will also experience that european reality is not something far away, but that even in our local community we can participate in building of a common european space.
