As the umbrella of 26 nursery schools and a vocational school for child care workers Klax Berlin gGmbH acts in the project as the Applicant organization of a consortium. The other six members of the consortium are all nursery schools which operate under the umbrella of the Klax Berlin gGmbH . We maintain international contacts with partner institutions of early childhood education, within the framework of international cooperation projects, educational trips and participation in international conferences. This exchange and mutual learning from good practice, provides a continuous reflection and improvement of our educational concepts and approaches. Digital Media In the field of school education it is considered an important objective of making possible that every child is able to use digital media in a good way. In the early childhood education there are only a few concepts, models and infrastructure. The children’s environment is full with different information technologies. This is why, it is essential that we implement these technologies on a daily basis in the nursery education. In a pilot project, we have already been testing opportunities and potentials of the rational use of digital media in some of our nursery schools. An expert group team meets monthly to talk about their experiences with the children and develops teaching approaches and methods. Outdoor learning The outdoor learning is essential for the optimal development of children, not only physically but also in social, cognitive and emotional aspects. In our nursery schools the employees are encouraged to stay outdoors. This means that we first need to develop an awareness of educators that changes their behavior outdoors . For this purpose four employees were previously sensitized yet. Job Shadowing as an optimal training opportunity In order to develop and implement meaningful curricula, it is useful and necessary to get to know and to experience other methods and approaches and to exchange these with colleagues in Europe. Through Job Shadowing 44 of our employees will acquire the following skills in the areas of digital media and learning outdoor : - Expansion of existing knowledge and acquisition of new knowledge on approaches and methods of learning in pre-school education - Development and implementation of learning and playing activities. - Development and creation of ICT-based learning environments in different educational fields. - Raising awareness, advice and information for parents regarding the opportunities and limitations of digital media in early childhood education and the learning opportunities for learning outdoors. In addition, our employees will acquire through the job shadowing, knowledge about the different national standards in the field of pre-school education, especially for learning with digital media and learning outdoors. They also get the chance for more openness to other cultural and linguistic context. This we consider as a prerequisite to build personal and professional links with partner organizations and to develop and implement further international cooperation projects. Language classes as a basis for international project work In both topics mentioned above, cooperation and learning from good practice in other European countries are very profitable. The Scandinavian countries are more advanced in the implementation of digital media in pre-school education than in Germany. The same we have found for learning outdoor activities in Italy. In order to enable an international exchange in both countries linguistic requirements are necessary. Also for the further internationalization of our work the international language skills of our employees are important. For this 10 employees will improve their language skills. Preparation, contact, monitoring and evaluation of the stay and the project is done in collaboration with child-care teams, participants and partners through the project coordinator. Dissemination of project results The new gained expertise will be shared with the rest of the nursery schools teams during different workshops, assemblies and conferences. The results will be also the base of the curriculum of our vocational school in terms of implementation of digital media in different learning fields.
