Entrepreneurship, business studies in practise
Start date: Aug 18, 2014, End date: Aug 17, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

On both schools business studies is part of the normal curriculum. Students learn about economics, international business, sustainability, financial markets, international trade and marketing. There is hardly any connection to the real business world. That causes problems in the sense of motivation and attitude towards learning, doing homework, and in the worsed case, education in general. These students learn best if they do practical assignments, which are hard to find in business studies class at the moment. This project will contain real marketing, export, import, distribution and and trade activities, so the students learn in practice what it means to work in international trade. Students become entrepreneurs of their own learning proces because they experience many different roles in a business proces, which will help them to make a more fundamental choice for their own future, and causes improved motivation to finish secondary school. * Students will learn to plan, do, control and act. In other words, they learn to think before they do, check if things go right, and make improvements if necessary. * Students will experience professional work enviroment. They will visit various companies to enlarge their view on international business. and society in general. * Students will improve marketing skills. They will learn to use marketing strategies, to be able to know which product will be most succesful, how marketing has to be done, and learn to improve when strategies don't work. * Students will improve language skills when they work together with the Irish school as well as when they work in international business, the actual lesson is also taught in English * Students will experience life in another country and learn to appriciate other cultures. They will also learn to develop a flexibel attitude towards cultural differences. * The students learn the need to raise money for people who are less lucky in life. The company profit will be given to charity. The participating students, appr. 120 in total (different students in year one and two) will be around 15 years old. The students are practical thinkers, so they need practical activities for better understanding and motivation, to prevent them to drop out. The students will study business studies. They will contact their peers, as an introduction, look for a product to sell, visit a company, visit a sea or airport and learn marketing strategies from an external expert. During the exchanges they will visit the company producing the product they want to sell, help with the production and inform themselves on import en export matters. They will also be looking for a charity to donate their profit to. Back home the students will import the goods, work on a marketing portefeille and organize a sales marketing for school and neighbourhood. In the final stage the teachers and students will evaluate and adapt the project when necessary. The curriculum of business studies will officially be changed. It will show substantial improvement. The project is shared on the website, in our bullitin for parents and teachers as well as to the bilangual Dutch network schools. The project will be repeated (in the improved version) in the second year.
