Enterprising Europe
Start date: Aug 1, 2016, End date: Jul 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The JPT motto is : Active and unlimited. This means that we have adopted internationalisation as our focus and in all departments internationalisation will be the main goal. In order to achieve this aim project Enterprising Europe seeks to improve staff knowledge, skill s and competences in the next academic year.Five years ago our college started Bilingual Education in all departments of the school: mavo/vmbo, havo and vwo. At the moment some 750 students are involved in all departments. Apart from the English department the following departments are involved: History, Social Studies, Geography, Economics, Mathematics, Biology, Science, Music, Art and P.E. More staff need to be educated in order to teach all groups of students adequately. Moreover, International Baccalaureate English Language A en B was introduced in the top forms. The English teachers have acquired specialised knowledge and necessary qualifications but they need new courses (Cat. 2) to maintain that. Besides, they will have to reflect on their programme and make adaptations when they get feedback. We would like to improve the language competences and knowledge of CLIL techniques in new bilingual teachers and we were advised to engage the other modern language departments in this development and pay more attention to the use of the foreign language in all classroom situations. Also, the teachers of French and German have become very inspired by the IB workshops of the teachers of English and Spanish. We would like to enhance our knowledge of content and didactics of the use of tablet computers in classroom situations. Currently we are experimenting with the ’bring your own device' concept and we are planning to introduce this concept for all our students in the college. We would also like to obtain more knowledge in the field of European art and culture for members of our art department. This project will enable the department to develop an extensive project about art and culture in Europe for our all our students. In all 22 teachers will participate in this training scheme; 6 for bilingual education /CLIL, 3 for IB English Language A and B, 4 for language B French and German, 7 for MYP, and 2 for the Future Learning with Ipads/Tablets. 14 of them are involved in bilingual education/ CLIL, 3 in IB English Language A and B and 2 have a great affinity with modern media. 7 teachers are involved in job shadowing activities. 2 are going to experience how a school has introduced entrepreneurship throughout the school in the Czech Republic, 2 are going to work on education on different cultures and entrepreneurship in Turkey, 2 PE teachers would like to see how English schools succeed in binding students to the schools through the PE curriculum and start a European sports competition at the same time and 1 teacher wants to explore the European dimension for Art. These teachers have proposed these courses themselves and the Bilingual education/ CLIL coordinator picked the Bilingual education/CLIL course. The courses will be taken in groups or individually and the teachers will report their experiences in a blog or vlog in the eTwinning Twinspace and in the school's Newsletter. In this way the courses can be evaluated in real time and at the end of the academic year an evaluation survey will be held among all participants. The teachers of English keep their qualification for IB English Language A en B and will get feedback on their programme. The Bilingual education/CLIL teachers will improve their language skills, fluency in English and their knowledge of CLIL classroom methods and strategies. The teachers of French and German will be introduced to the holistic approach of the IBO. The senior managers and the 5 teachers who are going to do the MYP course will attain insight and knowledge of the programme and the teacher of art will examine thoroughly the role of Italy as the melting pot of European art. After her return she will share this knowledge and experience with her colleagues in the department. The economics teachers will find out about how to introduce entrepreneurship throughout the school and the teachers of geography and history will gain experience with Turkish culture as well as entrepreneurship at a Turkish school. Two teachers will participate in the Future Leraning with Ipads/Tablets course and enhance their knowledge of with the latest techniques and didactics in the use of tablet computers in combination with smartboards in the classroom and will share their experiences with all other colleagues who are going to work with tablet computers in their lessons All these courses will establish an improvement in teachers’ knowledge, skills and competences and will contribute to the fact that JPT will develop into truly international school that prepares and educates students for an international career all over the world.
