English Teacher Training
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The concept of "Integration of cultural diversity at the Elementary School Alsterredder" was developed in 2014 and a first sponsorship by Erasmus+ was approved in 2015. The proactive team was particularly supported by the advanced training courses. Smaller and bigger projects (via eTwinning and new personal contacts throughout the training courses) have become part of our school-life and involve many students and teachers by now. This application refers to the quality management of language teaching in our school (here English) that for us is the basis for intercultural exchange on our way to internalisation. As described above the staffs have changed a lot within a few years. Therefor the planning of further activities is not yet precise enough to be incorporated in this solicitation. Still there are plans which are being elaborated to new and bigger projects soon.To ensure the quality of English lessons in primary schools, the supervisory school authority postulates studied English teachers for the grades 3 and 4. The Primary School Alsterredder has a lack of studied English teachers. It’s impossible for our one part-time skilled employee to cover the aforesaid needs (24 hours per week) alone. The advanced training course would allow Mrs. Böttcher to accomplish her skills that up to now are nourished by her practical experience (such as the analogy to her studied subject French) and her own commitment. The awareness in terms of language, methodology, didactic and cultural purposes will be shared with the English teacher symposium within the school and the staff in its entirety. At the same time further personal contacts to expend or deepen the above described concept are desirable. New school partnerships could arise and help us to compensate the little cultural diversity within our school. It is a possibility to meet new partners, to develop projects together and to realise them within school partnerships or with eTwinning. Consequently our pupils have new opportunities to get in touch with children in other countries and to interchange experiences. Due to globalization and the internationalization of the (business) world, it is extremely important for us teachers and for students to become familiar with the language as the key to the culture of different countries in order to reduce barriers and promote global tolerance.
