English Teacher Training Course

The project of the HTL Rankweil “English Teacher Training Course” within the EU program Erasmus+ (mobility of individuals and/or opportunities for school staff) is an activity in the field of structured further education.The idea behind the project is the fact that our school communicates and cooperates with different international companies. Our school also offers numerous project weeks abroad in order to get to know cultural, social and economic aspects of other EU member states and to improve the participants´ language skills. Furthermore, the school has an emphasis on job-related foreign language skills which requires some teachers to teach their subject in English.In order to be able to meet these requirements profound qualifications in foreign languages for our staff are necessary. Therefor our teachers are asked to improve their language skills and also their methodological-didactical competence. Intercultural education and the understanding of European values and challenges are also important in order to pass on these experiences to our students.The project covers the following topic areas: Improvement of foreign language skills of teachers and improvement of communicative skills. Additionally, the teachers will expand their pedagogical and methodological-didactical skills.Participant in this project is Mag. Hubert Winkler. He teaches geography and economics in English and has already gathered experience with CLIL. He is also responsible for coordinating CLIL at our school.For further improving the required foreign language skills and for quality assurance the participation in a further training course seems necessary and justified. This will be a two-week teacher training course in the UK. Its aims are improving participants´ productive and receptive skills in English as well as introducing new teaching methodology. As part of this practice lessons will be held and evaluated. Also courses to improve the intercultural understanding of different countries and to communicate sociocultural values of different member states are also part of this program. The course outcomes are part of the Europe 2020 Strategy.The desired long-term effect will be an improvement in quality of the lessons at our school. Another course outcome for the teacher and for his students will be an increased awareness of the link between language and culture. For this main activity preparation includes literature research, communication with the organizers and a close cooperation with our foreign language assistant who will visit some lesson and provide feedback. In order to make the entire staff profit from this course, internal training sessions as well as the organization of information exchange workshops together with other schools are planned. The project and it´s benefits will be published on the homepage of our school.
