English language improvement
Start date: Aug 23, 2014, End date: Aug 30, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

In our increasingly school multi-lingual society, foreign language learning is becoming more and more important. More than 40 percent of our pupils are not native speakers of German, and we need to consider this as we move ahead with our planning for the future. It is essential to offer our pupils modern, child- oriented, well- taught English language instruction that addresses their inborn curiosity and interest in learning a foreign language. We aim to offer our pupils English language instruction that is both lively and professional, taught by teachers with excellent English language skills. Thus, we need teachers who are educated in TESL. Many of our staff need to refresh and improve their English, and update their English language teaching skills. Those who have kept up with their English language teaching skills through coursework should teach English in classes where the teachers feel they may not be up to teaching English in the modern classroom. In elementary schools, teaching is often interdisciplinary, and for science instruction, there has been an increase in the number of textbooks on the market that use English. In order to take advantage of these new textbooks, teachers must have a good command of the English language. I feel that it is very important that there be teachers at our school who can communicate in English with parents who do not speak German well. The participant in the projekt will share her knowledge in a SCHILF and in visits to English classes. Hopefully, this will encourage colleagues to pursue further education in English and take advantage of the offerings of the University of Education (PH).
