Our Project prepared by İbn-i Sina Private Education and Application Center located in Diyarbakır included educational and observation activities for private training teachers who take charge in our school. Our project to which 20 special education teachers attended was performed as 2 stages. Our Project subject is “Preparation of Activity Scales for Autistic Children”. Activity scales are picture and word sets that are developed by Princeton Child Development Institution by scientific studies that have been continuing for over 20 years. Activity scales, in other words – education tools, enables autistic children to perform their activities without the help of the adults. In education with activity scales, skill to be taught to the child is divided into little steps and an image is prepared for showing this step to the child (for example, a notebook with photographs). Later on, the child follows this scale (for example, by turning the pages of notebook) and performs each step. Activity scales are very effective for autistic children to perform several skills, especially self-care, daily and casual skills in an independent way. There are a lot of studies that show the fact that this method has been successful for autistic children. At the same time, scientific studies show that parents and educators had better spend their time for activity scales in order to direct and instruct them continuously, and make them gain key skills that will have importance for their lives all the time. As part of our our Project, private education teachers who take charge in our school received training in the direction of ‘Preparation of Activity Scales for Autistic Children’ and developed their vocational equipment within the scope of host partners . Our teachers shared their acquisitions with other teachers who take charge in our school. Thus, all of the teachers within our school updated their knowledge in the direction of education of autistic students. Our teacher staff that has equipped with up-to-date information has raised the quality level of our school. From 2016-2017 education period, use of activity scales for our autistic students will ease the education of our students and provide independence for them when they perform their own life skills. The fact of how to use the activity scales will also be taught to the parents of the students. Thus, parents will also be able to instruct their children without spending less energy and time. Thus, life quality of families will be increased, too. Outputs of our project were shared with official and private corporations that serve education for mentally retarded individuals in order to generalize. Therefore, private education corporations were encouraged to perform similar projects in order to increase vocational equipment of their own personnel.
