Start date: Aug 1, 2016, End date: Jul 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Vocational training for persons with disabilities, despite teaching them a profession, carries big importance for their participation within society and work life, as productive and independent individuals integrated into society. Therefore vocational training plays an important role for their life quality. Nowadays, the efforts to meet the demands of disabled individuals in an appropriate way have increased. But there are still obvious gaps concerning the vocational training of disabled people, their integration into the society and the providing of rehabilitation. Our school, the Ibrahim Cengiz Private Education Vocational High School, is specialized on the needs of individuals with hearing impairments. Our target is to teach basic life skills, to ensure integration into the society and to let them gain knowledge as well as skills necessary for work and profession. Our students receive vocational education in various areas, but it is necessary to further increase their possibilities to do internships, let them turn their theoretical knowledge into skills through qualitative practical usage, and increase their vocational qualifications. However, at companies providing internship opportunities within our country, the students with hearing impairments are often confronted with communication problems and are given minor tasks, which don’t correspond to their specific areas. Because of difficulties to reach the level of professional skills and competences expected they experience severe lacks of self-confidence and problems to participate in work life. It is necessary to create more appropriate learning environments to increase their professional skills and their qualifications and thereby make them more self-assured and effectively participating in work and society. Our project is based on the specific needs of the students. Out of the two fields Information Technology and Food and Beverage Services, 40 students will participate within the project. With the aim to increase the qualifications and professional skills of the students, co-operations with European partners have been established. All participants will do a two-week internship, 20 participants chosen from the field of Information Technology, will learn about Web Page Design in the company Telindus in Holland; 20 participants chosen from the field of Food and Beverage Services, will learn about the preparation of salad with sauce in the Holland in the company Lust Culinair. The mobility activities will be organized by both partner organizations in the form of two flows from both sides, so there will be altogether 4 flows. The first two flows will take place between the 5th February 2017 and the 19th February 2017, the other two flows will be realized between the 26th February and the 12th March 2017. In our two flows there will be each 10 participants and 2 companions. Based on the needs of our participants, the main aims of our project are to increase professional competences, to minimize dependencies, to develop their capacity, to strengthen self-confidence and to provide better opportunities on the labour market and within the society. The expected outcome and impacts of our project are to increase the learning motivation and social integration skills of our participants; to develop their cognitive, psycho-motoric and multi-national abilities to live and maintain their independency; to transfer innovative practices to our school and to increase our institutional capacity and management skills and finally, with the help of transnational partnerships, to modernize and internationalize our institution. The methodology used during the conduction of our project, follows the principles of participation, co-operation, transparency and task-sharing. There has been established a strong management team already with persons who have previous experiences with European Union projects. Duties and responsibilities are shared within the team; together with all actors of the project there will be a contract signed that determinates their duties and responsibilities. All activities will be organized in a structured way. For the successful conduction of the project all actors will work in continuous collaboration. On a long-term view, the expected outcomes of our projects are to strengthen the cooperation between our school and companies; to increase the quality of our education as well as competences of our staff; to educate individuals with hearing impairments in a more qualitative way; to establish sustainable partnerships with European companies, thereby to raise quality and to establish a continuity of internationalization; to strengthen the cooperation between our school and the labour market; encourage the conduction of future projects to increase quality of private education vocational schools and to raise more awareness of disability.
