Energy for a long night of science (ELONOS)
Start date: Jun 1, 2010, End date: Nov 30, 2010 PROJECT  FINISHED

The city of Leipzig is planning its participation in the European Researcher’s Night as part of an integrated policy to raise public awareness for research activities in local scientific and educational institutions. A vital network of schools, companies, academic institutions and research facilities that fosters young people’s interest in sciences and technology already exists. With the celebration of the 600 years university history, the city and all regional actors have initiated a dynamic process to advance in integrating the scientific community within the city’s society. The European Researcher’s Night will bring these activities to a new level and allow for the establishment of a biannual rhythm of such events in Leipzig.Being aware of the responsibility to communicate and actively integrate the general public within scientific debates and institutions an innovative project was put together.A broad awareness campaign that uses the potential of regional and local media outlets as well as the possibilities of the internet will reach a large number of people and ensure a high turnout of visitors. The event will reach at least 10000 people. The Researcher’s Night is supported by scientific institutions such as Leipzig University, the Fraunhofer Institute for Immunology and Cell Therapy (IZI), the Max Planck Institute of Evolutionary Anthropology, the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), and many others, as well as by local business companies. Its concept is aimed at reaching people of all ages and educational backgrounds, and provides a smart combination of information and entertainment. The impact assessment will be used to measure the sustainability of the Researcher’s Night activities and provide valuable information for future initiatives for the promotion of science and research.
