Ένα σχολείο ολόκληρος ο κόσμος
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The 2nd Primary School of Paralia is situated in the western coastal area of the city in a modern building and is staffed by 17 active teachers with noticeable presence in the local community. Among the 178 pupils of our school, are included students with special educational needs who attend the Integration class, roma students and non-native speakers of the Greek language, as well. All the teachers implement innovative educational projects and collaborate effectively with social and private institutions (university, municipality, environmental centres, local companies) by organizing and presenting a variety of actions. Throughout the last years, a systematic effort has been made on behalf of the teachers to integrate new technologies into the teaching practice. The main objective of all the undertaken activities is to provide equal opportunities to all our students. The clear European orientation adopted by our school urges us in a new effort to strengthen the cooperation with other European countries based on the current educational situation and needs. Our school faces problems associated with the lack of linguistic, mathematic and social literacy. Moreover, the diversity in the school environment and the multilayer role that the teacher of Primary Education undertakes in order to come up to an extremely large number of school subjects, make it necessary to adapt to the new data. As responsible teachers we need to have access to those educational tools that will enable us to improve not only our cognitive skills, but also those related to the transmission of life principles and values in order to consummate our identity as “teachers”. Changes concerning the role of both the school and the educators, define, therefore, the training needs of those who participate in this project. It is a project based on the needs of both the students and the teachers of our school and inspired by the will of the teachers as a whole to develop their skills through training seminars of European level, where teachers from different countries and representatives of various educational systems take part. The idea, on which the present project was based, is the professional development of a group of teachers of our school through European programmes of training. Each teacher undertakes a separate subject, in which he will be trained in order to improve his basic skills. Furthermore, he will be educated in anticipation of bringing to the school environment innovative methods and good practices. The final result will be a mosaic of several closely connected actions, which supplement one another. It will cover the needs of our students and it will be applied as an innovative programme in the school by the teachers as a whole. The group of participants, selected under commonly acceptable criteria, consists of five (5) teachers with clearly defined educational needs. The training actions will deal with the following sectors: multiculturalism and specifically diversity in class, literacy and specifically issues on teaching mathematics, foreign languages, music and Technology of Information and Communication. All the participants will have to submit specific educational material (reports, presentations, tasks etc) which will constitute the base for an innovative programme applicable, by means of interdisciplinary activities, to the school subjects as a whole and by all the teachers of the school. An electronic guide of good practices, accessible to all, will be created which, however, will hardly resemble the school course books. It will be a source of innovations, applied by the teachers of each class, that will be enriched and updated through the collaboration with European partners or other structures i.e. e –twinning, It is expected that these innovative actions will improve the students’ basic skills, will contribute to the further integration of students with special needs, non native speakers of Greek and motivate other teachers as well. Our fundamental objective is the channel of communication with other European countries to remain active and open and after the completion of the project as well. Finally, the training actions will enhance the professional profile of the participants improving their skills on issues concerning teaching practices. For our school, it will be an excellent opportunity for new collaborations in a European level. Our students will be the final recipients of all the innovative actions. We strongly believe that our coordinated efforts will create a secure and creative educational environment for all our students and will motivate them in such a way that the level of their basic skills will not only be improved but further developed as well.
