En-lighting outdoors
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Aug 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

In Palaichori Primary School, a small school in the mountains, within a community deeply affected by the economic crisis and the unemployment, we have carefully assessed and identified certain, areas for school improvement and we are determined to make a difference. Having raised- the last two years- our ability to cooperate with all partners in the school unit, as well as with the external ones, se set our new project which aims to work on the building of a stable and coherent body of knowledge. More specifically, we want our students apart from abilities, skills and knowledge, based on an enriched curriculum which is offered only to whole-day schools, to acquire a strong and coherent body of knowledge on their own language. We want them to possess a rich vocabulary and all the necessary concepts that consist the base of learning. We want the learning of the above to take place outdoors and be permanent. We want to raise our standards and we want our students to acquire international competencies. We want to develop a school policy on language and concept structuring, as well as assessment tools for these. We are planning activities to improve students ability to read, to enhance their love for reading, to enrich their vocabulary and to build a very structured knowledge of the basic concepts in all subjects. Therefore, we have developed an action plan. We have also applied for three courses which are being offered by Kinda, a Swedish organization and we will send one participant to each. The teachers will be selected on their willingness to participate, their expertise and the relevance of their subject to the course. The aim of the training is to broaden and deepen knowledge of outdoor education and learning as well as to share experiences in the European perspective. Different teaching methods and techniques for daily school life will be demonstrated, experienced and reflected upon. The topics we chose and the working methods of the course offer possibilities to ensure a better qualified staff in different respects. By attending the courses, we hope to build our network of contacts with other schools across Europe; which we expect to lead to greater European cooperation, such as eTwinning activities and KA2 partnerships. Our ultimate target is to develop a vision and a long term school policy on learning and creative thinking, leading us to internationalization.
