A changed role for the teacher - creative solutions for the teacher of tomorrow and a sustainable development. The society and the environment is changing and there is need among staff at Herrhagsskolan for higher competence to meet the demands in the curriculum. We have a need to develop our learning, widen the perspectives and take part of new research. We have a need of raising the competence fr pedagogical staff in order to meet challenges and raise the quality in education concerning international issues, sustainable development and goal attainment. We wish for our students to feel safe and secure. That is the foundation for a good learning environment. We know that our ongoing activities have positive impact concerning both the safety of the students and their learning, but there is a need to enhance knowledge and new research to develop our work and to meet the changes of the future. Our school, Herrhagsskolan, Karlstad, Sweden, is a primary-school with about 306 students aged 6 - 12. The number of employees is 50.Regarding areas such as languge development and sustainable development we carry out following activities:* During the week of the Rights of the child we study the Convention and focus on children´s different living conditions in the world.* We are a Global Friends School and participatein the global vote for The World´s Children`s Prize.* We participate in "Aktion Julklappen" arranged by Läkarmissionen* All students at school are members of aged mixed groups to develope friendship, safety, understanding and tolerance. These "Friend groups" meet regulary and carry out different activities together.* The school cooperate with the department of technical supply in the municipality. We work with environmental technology and sustainable development and visit the facilities.* We cooperate with the Nature school of the municipality and carry out ecological studies in the nature.* We work with NTA- boxes, a material in science and technology from the municipality. It teaches sustainability, entrepreneurially learning in an laboratory and active way.* In Science and Social studies we develop the student´s knowledge in energy, environment and culture issues in an European and global perspective.* We work in themes with Storyline - an interdisciplinary, student active method wich train collaboration, democracy, creativity and influence.* We face the changed role of the future teacher and new research by letting all pedagogical staff attend the Governmental investments " Matematiklyftet" and "Läslyftet"We evaluate our activities in our annual, systematical quality evaluation. The outcomes of the evaluation are that the activities are appreciated and work but need to be upgrated and developed to meet the changes in society and environment. This demands a changed role of the teacher. Our school project " A changed role for the teacher - creative solutions for the teacher of tomorrow and a sustainable development" can raise our competences and develop the activities. In the long run we hope that active work with these fields will lead to a raised goal attainment, studymotivated students, less drop outs, democratical responsible citizens, interest in international contacts and a life long learning.
