Empowering Youth Exchanges
Start date: Jan 1, 2015, End date: Dec 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Empowering Youth Exchanges aims to empower young people to build on their skills to enable them to better influence service deliverers, that is, stakeholder organisations in their locality and beyond. It aims to empower young people by giving a clear focus on solidarity and team work, using cultural differences and backgrounds and a mixed skills base to bring innovation in their thinking and identify better solutions as a team rather than as individuals. Two exchanges will be carried out, in Sweden and in the UK. 40 young people from diverse backgrounds in Southward (London), Sefton (Merseyside) and Malmo (Sweden) with existing skills in specific areas of personal development, ICT and entrepreneurial thinking, and safety of young people will come together to grow their own skills and mentor the others to identify greater solutions to the problems they face. The activity will take the form of group work, strategic thinking and individual reflection and will take place over 5 days each in Malmo and Derbyshire and will focus on: - Personal development hopes and dreams - Solidarity and team work - Trusting others and safety - Entrepreneurial thinking an innovation - Influencing others Singificantly raised aspirations will be achieved and awareness of what can be done when people work together. This will bring with it an appreciation of diversity and difference and the complementarity of experiences that such diversity brings. The goal is to build solidarity between young people from different backgrounds and we expect that this will lead to a heightened desire by them to progress further more strategic European work which can be led by young people for young people.
