Empowering our CLIL teachers

Palaichori Primary School, is a small school in the Troodos mountains, within a community deeply affected by the economic crisis and unemployment. Therefore, we have carefully assessed and identified certain areas (certain Curriculum subjects and the use of the second language) that need to be improved. Our aim is to help our pupils, apart from abilities, skills and knowledge, based on an enriched Curriculum which is offered only to whole-day schools, to acquire a strong and coherent body of knowledge in a second language (in our case, English). We would like them to possess a rich vocabulary and all the necessary concepts that consist the base of learning but through the second language.It is our vision that our pupils acquire international competencies that will help them enter the European Market. And we believe that CLIL is the right approach.For this reason, we have developed an action plan that will help us promote CLIL in our school. We have applied for three training courses and we have selected our teachers based on their willingness to invest and promote CLIL and their experience on working with CLIL. We believe that the training courses will offer possibilities to ensure a better qualified CLIL staff in all aspects. Our main target is the development of a long term school CLIL policy on learning and creative thinking, which will lead us to a European CLIL standard school.
