ELSA addresses the learning needs of professional caregivers working in residential and home care services (nursing homes, assisted living centers, adult care centers, home services, and the like) and of relatives caring for frail older people living at home or in residential care.These two groups are traditionally not merged in relation to their learning/training needs or when updating their caring skills and competencies, which are in some cases very similar and even overlapping. Researches done from October 2008 to February 2009 by the Partners have enlightened which are the common needs of these two groups and the lack of learning and training offer based on web 2.0.Following a commonly agreed path, and trained through six workshops to harmonise their approaches and methodologies, the Partners will make short videos, photos, collect accounts of caregivers (professionals and relatives) on a number of topics resulted interesting on the basis of the researches done (i.e. how to help in grooming, how to deal with home assistants, how to interact with frail elderly with cognitive problems, how to organize a daily schedule, what kind of interaction and cooperation among professionals and relatives is possible, etc.)The partners base their work on the approaches, among others, of Carl Rogers, Tom Kitwood, Christine Kovach and Moyra Jones.During the first year a multilingual website will collect the videos, photos, texts produced in the various countries (subtitled or translated when deemed important by a panel of experts belonging to the partnership); the website will be interfaced, during the second year, with Facebook, Flickr and Youtube for creating social networks in 4 languages open to professionals and relatives, where they will find training, information, role models, peer support. The Partners will raise interest around the project through their networks, and widely disseminate it through newsletters, leaflets and brochures, a final conference, a video.
