Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Mar 20, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project arises in the context of several meetings organized by the Spanish NA about the current situation faced by many mentors of EVS when having to deal with emotionally complex situations that the volunteers bring to the mentoring sessions was analyzed and that without adequate preparation can make quite difficult the work of the mentor, the support s/he can provide to the volunteers and the general climate in the work environment where the EVS project develops. This lsituation can be extrapolated to the European level where dozens of tutors SVE face identical situations in working with volunteers , hence with our partners we have raised the need to conduct a training that results in an improvement of the skills of EVS mentors and hence their employability and better opportunities for a job as youth workers or EVS mentors. In this course, 25 participants with a professional profile (volunteer or paid ) in the field of Youth, performing duties as mentors of EVS or at least planning to do so in the near future. We speak of people aged between 25 and 40 years old , male and female. The activities carried out were influenced by experiential and work methodology based on the principles of Non-Formal Education. In this sense the working methods used were from individual presentations of participants to working groups, discussions, exercises, meditation or introspection, development techniques of empathic and emotional communication and active listening on the part of mentors, sessions on helping relationship but also on Erasmus + Programme, Youthpass or competence of learning to learn and emotional competence. The expected results of the project are the improvement of professional skills and employability of participants through the development of skills in the following participants: 1) First, the EMOTIONAL COMPETENCE : This competence involves improving self-esteem and motivation to work in supporting young European volunteers and to learn to recognize your own emotions and be able to capture the mood of the volunteer / s they work helping the positive management of these emotions and do the job more stable tutor from an emotional point of view and more effective. 2) LANGUAGE COMPETENCE : Participants improved and empowered their language skills through the development and practice of English. The course is taught in English. 3) SOCIAL AND CULTURAL COMPETENCE : The group of participants is in itself a melting pot of different cultures and nationalities that we used to deepen aspects of intercultural learning. The dynamics and methodology of the course involved carrying out a range of activities that facilitated interaction and exchange of experiences among participants, promoting empathy between them and the joy of the implicit cultural diversity in the group. 4) LEARNING TO LEARN COMPETECE : Participants learnt to intervene with European volunteers from a standpoint of facilitating learning, identifying the volunteer's learning style, devising itineraries for self-directed learning where they can accompany the volunteer in their own learning process. 5 ) AND COMPETENCE TO COOPERATE AND MAKE INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS : learn about the new Erasmus + Program on Youthpass and aspects of quality of youth projects at international level, so that they are capable and competent to develop new projects from their home institutions, supporting and strengthening the capacity of their organizations to get involved in European projects. The impact on participants was very noticeable because they were strengthened in the way they face emotional situations with their volunteers, being able to discern between their own emotional responses as mentors and what actually happens to the volunteer. Participants acquired the ability to respond empathically to the needs of their volunteers, in a healthy, consistent and non-judgmental manner .
