eljub Think Tank
Start date: Sep 1, 2015, End date: Dec 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The eljub European Literature Youth Meetings have been held since 2013 in Lower Austria. Alongside the eljub-Think Tank, the participants have the opportunity to introduce to decision-makers from the youth sector their jointly prepared ideas, to exchange views with them and to learn about the political feasibility of ideas and proposals in a professional context. The eljub-Think Tank bases its ideas on the outcomes of the eljub European Literature Youth Meetings. Furthermore, it puts forward the ideas and proposals of eljub participants to political decision-makers; and in conjunction with youth sector decision-makers it helps them to advance the process of learning and practising participation. The eljub European Literature Youth Meetings enable young adults to learn to appreciate Europe’s shared heritage through the focus on literature. They therefore promote and raise awareness for the new opportunities of digital writing, reading, publishing and communicating and help young people to become pro-active in their own environment. This is achieved during the course of the youth meeting via the varied composition of small groups focusing on the production of an ebook that is available in digital and print format. From 2015, the topics of the eljub European Literature Youth Meetings are selected within the scope of the main theme of the EU Youth Strategy. In the weeklong European Literature Youth Meeting held in July 2015 in Krems an der Donau, these topics will be the foundation for the discussion and writing process for young people from seven different countries. Alongside texts produced by the young participants, the ebook will also contain a catalogue of ideas, questions and proposals with regard to the theme of the “Empowerment of young people”. The first eljub-Think Tank conference takes place in October 2015 in Krems an der Donau. Eljub participants meet decision-makers from the regional, national and European youth field and present them with their catalogue of ideas, questions and proposals. Following on from this, in small groups they learn about the political feasibility of ideas, projects and proposals. The conference outcomes are presented in a publication. The timing and local venue, which coincides with the opening of the European Literature Days, represents a further important input for the eljub-Think Tank. In the accompanying programme for the eljub-Think Tank, young participants meet leading international writers and attend a literature event that focuses on the idea of participation in a European dimension. The eljub-Think Tank and eljub European Literature Youth Meetings are mutually beneficial. After the first eljub-Think Tank conference in October 2015 and in preparation for the eljub European Literature Youth Meeting 2016, in spring 2016, exchange meetings will be organized in Germany and the Czech Republic for participants of the 2015 meeting. Decision-makers from the youth sector will meet in these countries and discussions will be held about the outcomes of the eljub-Think Tank conference published in ebook format. The eljub European Literature Youth Meeting 2016 will then form the basis for the second eljub-Think Tank conference 2016.
