The Eindhoven, Leuven, Aachen Technology Triangle (ELAT) stands between three of NW Europe’s most important centres of population and economic activity: the Flemish urban network, the Ruhr valley and the Dutch Randstad. Stimulating innovation via trans-national co-operation across this area is therefore important for improving NW Europe’s wider competitiveness. The main objective of 3.9M euro ELAT project is to develop and implement a joint innovation strategy for the technology triangle, using ICT to involve knowledge institutes, businesses and public authorities in the technology triangle. The project, which is being led by Eindhoven regional government, will encourage knowledge institutes and businesses to work together to apply the combined knowledge they have developed in prototypes, 0-series and production equipment. The strategy will focus on technology clusters and mutually reinforcing combinations of technology such as ICT and healthcare. The goal of the joint innovation strategy is to make the ELAT area an internationally recognized top region for technology and improve the economic climate. Achievements: The main outcomes are the joint innovation strategy and joint actions to implement this strategy. a very successful joint implmentation action was the realisation of a joint masterclass on hight-tech entrepreneurship which supported 37 high tech start up projects.
