Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

"Living upper secondary school"- project in Myllyharjun lukio in Loviisa 2014-2016 In the background of our project Was the objectives of Loviisa city. These objectives was to improve student's and teacher's IC- skills and increase international cooperation to improve the attractivity of education at upper secondary school in Loviisa. To be able to answer these challenges our teachers needed more ICT- education (especially in using tablets). To increase international cooperation we also needed new European contacts. The main objective of our project was to improve the digital skills of teachers and students. In addition we wanted to make our teaching methods/ students' learning skills more diverse. More over we wanted to extend our international network and increase international activities (KA2). In the beginning there were 5 teachers involved in this project. Three of them were supposed to participate to Euneos "Tap- Swipe-Pinch"- course ( 2 in autumn 2014, 1 during the term 2015-2016). Two of the participants were supposed to attend to job shadowing period during 2014-2016 in different schools in Europe. Teachers involved teach both at Myllyharjun lukio and at Myllyharju secondary school so this benefited both schools.. All of the participants were teachers who have used some digital teaching methods, are interested in international cooperation and development of the school. Because of the changes in the school unfortunately only 4 teachers could take part of this project. Participating teachers learned new, pedagogic justifiable ways to use tablets and new apps. They have been able to share their knowlegment also to the teachers and pupils in upper secondary and primary school. During the job shadowing participating teacher teacher got to know different ways to teach and can compere teaching methods, using ICT and generally the school system in both schools. Purpose of the project was to increase the use of tablets in different subjects and to diversify teaching methods. Students get skills in their future studies and in their working life. European cooperation in the different subjects will be part of our school's normal activity in future. Common projects with other European schools have made and will make students skills in foreign languages better, will increase tolerance and appreciation of different cultures. Experiences from the project was utilized while making the ICT- plan of Myllyharjun lukio as well as Loviisa city's basic education and also in curriculum reform. New teaching methods which activate students and new international projects will increase the attractivity of our school and in its own part will strengthen the Finnish -speaking upper secondary school education's position in bilingual Loviisa city also in the future.
