EL AJEDREZ DENTRO DEL AULA
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Santa Anna is a state k-12 school, in Oliva, is a public center of nursery and primary education. This is listed as a Singular Educational Action Center, due to the characteristics of the students who attend; the 73% of the students present educational compensation, belonging to ethnic minorities such as the gypsy which is the major. The families belong to a low socio-economic context. The school has a total of 138 students, within a program to contribute the reduction of school failure. The school's faculty consists of 22 teachers. The teaching in our center is done in Valencian (language of our region) developed in a PPEV program (Multilingual Education Program in Valencian), learning in the official language is generally the norm in pre-schools and primary schools around the world, but also, this centre is included in the multilingual centers context, so English is used as a subject, but also as a language in the artistic expression, in the second year of Nursery (3-6 years) and in all years of Primary.Within our program, we are developing a chess project in the classroom, dedicated to research and educational innovation in curriculum development during the academic year 2014-15 and 2015-16. The Chamber of Deputies approved in February the 11th of 2015 the 'Chess in School' program, joining the Written Declaration 50/2011 of the European Parliament, 2012.This fact was a clear indication to continue betting for chess and forming us as teachers. Chess is part of the comprehensive education of students with a weekly session and classroom level within the area of mathematics in all courses of our center. It develops the cognitive and emotional intelligence, and five of the eight multiple intelligences established by Howard Gardner. Several scientific studies have shown that chess improves student academic performance, particularly if there is significant improvement in mathematical problem solving and reading comprehension, concentration is improved. The faculty has need to ask specific training to carry out this project in classrooms and has concluded the need of Europeanization to the formation of our teachers. We expect this project to open a new vision for teachers with new specific training, allowing us to disseminate best practices and keep betting for chess and education, to combat school failure. In this project, teachers will perform various courses related to teaching chess, with an eminently practical view. In addition, emphasis will be placed on the methodology to be applied to the educational level at which they are. Additionally, a language course, aimed at management teams that allow us to become fluent and allow intercommunication with different educational teams will take place.Preparation, project monitoring and evaluation will be conducted by a committee of European projects created in our center in collaboration with host institutions of participants. Assessment tools include indicators, questionnaires, observation and comparative tables of academic results in previous years. The project results will be short-term training of teachers to teach subjects such as music, and integrating chess in a playful way in the classroom. The dissemination of knowledge, experiences and results generated by this project will be extended to the entire educational community (teachers of the faculty, students and families). At the local and regional level, information sessions and training activities will take place. We use media such as social networks, blogs and forums to share experiences and disseminate educational material generated at national and international level. To ensure continuity and sustainability of the project's long-term goals are aligned with the improvement plan and the training center project. What the school meant is that a PISA assessment will be made, where we can investigate and verify that the method really works. The evaluations are focus on examining how students apply knowledge and skills to tasks that are relevant to their future life, rather than memorizing a subject of knowledge. We intend to train teachers in this educational proposal, as it is flexible and diversifiable. Teaching Thinking is the basic purpose of all education and good educational systems, that is why games create motivation in the student, clarify difficult concepts and processes help in social learning processes and integrate different capacity. The games are flexible enough to meet various educational objectives at once. They are active and participatory. In the long term, the teachers will try to ensure equal opportunities for students, both in the labor and professional market, as to function in everyday activities.
