Our school is a public secondary school of general education. It is an active organization that is constantly seeking ways to develop new educational practices and actions, aimed at improving the skills of the teaching staff, but also to the development of students through innovative programs and digital activities. It also aims at becoming a center for the diffusion of new teaching practices, innovative actions and digital skills in the local and wider educational community and an ambassador of European education programs. In this context the plan was implemented with key objectives: to improve the incoming instruction, but also enhance the extra-curricular activities, which enrich the learning experience and allow the preoccupation with objects other than those provided for in the curriculum, strengthening social and European dimension of school, contact with teachers and students from other countries, exchange of experiences on a variety of teaching methods and the results of their application in the classroom.
Students attending are about 438, including students who have no family and hosted by Lyreio Foundation, and the children of immigrants (from Albania, India, Pakistan, Egypt, etc.). Our school has 35 teachers. Six of them participated in the project and have various specialties. The selection was made taking into account their involvement in extra-curricular activities, innovative actions, their interest in improving the educational procedure and the development of students' skills , adequate knowledge of the course language, the ability to integrate new knowledge and experiences in their lessons and the dissemination of knowledge and skills in the educational community.
The activities carried out under the project were:
"Science Museums and school", the use of museums as educational tools.
"Education in the countryside", to provide a comprehensive understanding of the content and prospects of education in the countryside.
"Educational Robotics", theory and practice of educational robotics, robot construction and programming.
"Play to learn”, combination of practical and creative needs of educational activities linking experiential - communication skills with virtual and digital recording.
"Creativity and innovation in teaching and learning for a better behaviour in class", combination of innovative teaching and learning methods, to motivate students to attend school classes.
Through the cooperation of all actors and the special effort and dedication shown by the participating teachers, the objectives from the outset had been achieved. This is the right choice of educational programs and implementing organizations, good organization and professionalism of the promoters the excellent communication and cooperation of all stakeholders, but especially of the participating teachers.
All the activities were based on group-work and experiential approach and thus cultivate the participants’ skills such as the ability of cooperation, communication, acceptance of different views and taking initiatives. Experienced alternative teaching practices, and ways to implement them and integrate in the Greek education system practices that involve more and more pleasantly students, bringing the lesson to become more efficient and at the same time strengthen the European dimension in our school.
For the dissemination of project results, and of that of Erasmus + KA1 program, a website was created which published material and links of the programs and actions held like: participation in educational networks and clustering, publications on educational blogs and social networks, meetings and events for the dissemination of project results and prompting for participation in European programs. Actions directed at the entire education community - pupils, teachers, parents - at local and regional level.
The programs implemented under this plan had various themes and were held in various European countries and through these teachers have access to innovative teaching methods and innovative practices in schools in other European countries, and also had the opportunity to establish partnerships and form networks with teachers from other European countries, reinforcing the European dimension of our organization and improving the educational process.
