Framework/Plan history:The renewal of the curriculum through the promotion of (informal) “outdoor” education, in urban as well as in rural environments, is the framework of the plan which is consistent with the definition of our school as Experimental.Objectives:Teacher training in the field of “outdoor” education, with a view to connecting our school with the urban area and specifically, with the elements that highlight the multicultural aspect of educational practices.Promotion of the European citizenship notion, especially where students with multicultural backgrounds are involved, with a view to integrating them into the school environment and emphasizing tolerance and democracy.Number and profile of participants:Twelve (12) teachers (6 of Greek literature, 2 of English language & literature, 2 physicists, 1 economist, and 1 of German language & literature):With increased academic qualifications.With experience of cross-curricular programs and actions, in and out of school hours (environmental, cultural, oral history, coping with dropouts, volunteerism, and so on).With permanent interest in creative and informal learning.With previous participation and activation in European programs.Description of activities:Design and promotion of the teaching approaches of “outdoor” education and of creative learning in the classroom.Reinforcement of the students’ cultural literacy and their involvement in decision making as well as lesson methodology.Realization of thematic experiential workshops at school in cooperation with environmental groups, oral history groups, and so on.Production and dissemination of original educational materials, giving emphasis on aspects of European citizenship and democratic school operation (creation and application of cross-cultural teaching scenarios).E-conferences with partners with a view to exchanging opinions and suggestions concerning the plan.In-school training in cooperation with the partners involved.Brief description of the expected results and impact:The results expected for the participants are:To broaden their cultural horizons and reinforce consciousness of their European identity.To enhance their skills of applying innovative educational methods that could provide the means for a possible reform of the curriculum.To promote their professional development.To encourage wider learning on matters concerning the European Union.The impact concerns the rest of the school’s teachers and students, as well as teachers of other schools and parents:The rest of the teachers will have the opportunity to receive in-school training.The students will receive encouragement to participate in teaching and support in the experiential discovery of their European identity. They will also practice their European citizenship and become aware of their rights and obligations as European citizens.Teachers of other schools will have access to educational material.Parents will receive the satisfaction that their children’s school follows European developments in the field of education.Possible long-term benefits:To develop a culture of group learning and cultivating European conscience in the school unit.
