Εκπαιδεύοντας ... θεατρικώς! Για βιωματική μάθηση και ψυχική ανάταση
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project "Educating..theatrically! For experiencial learning and emotional uplift" began on June 2nd 2015 and the twelve month period has been implemented by educators, teachers and specialist teachers of the 2nd Primary school of Stavroupoli Thessaloniki. The teachers of the school are familiar with modern educational techniques and they participate regularly in continuous professional development seminars organised by the Primary Education authorities. This project hopes to promote knowledge and application of Boal's methodas an educational tool for teachong at a European level. As the project was connected with the participation in "Boal's methodology in Eucation"seminar which was held in Zagreb, Croatia the material of this methodology was initially gathered. Boal supports the active participation of the group members in the educational process and the cooperation between actors and audience during the performance. The goal is to rech emotional release from the desires the protagonists have. The teachers of our school have the ambition to facilitate the learning process and to smooth the differences between the students. We have to mention that in our school there are students with special needs, learning difficulties, children from immigrant families and students from low income families. These marginalised students were,in a great degree intergrated and socialised through the particular programme. There was a common plan for the dissemination of knowledge in an experiencial way, while in the specialists' lessons improvisation, theatrical games and other pedagogical techniquesof Boal's methodology were used. The students charted ,learned and posted these games. They were used as a "warm-up"activityof the group in the educational process and as they were different each time, their final goal was to make students express their feelings. The students of the sixth grade adopted students from the first grade and took care of them during the breaks. At the same time there was an educational project called "Words DO hurt"dealing with the children's rights. The support class was in this project too.The students drew their rights, improvised with Boal's methodology about them, wrote poems and created an alphabet based on the children's rights.Theysang and dramatised the songs "Hands like these" and "If all the children of the world". At Christmas they dramatised the song "The world of Angels"and the students of the support class presented it in the sign language. The school invited the National Theatre of Northern Greece to present an alternative performance of the fairy tale "The girl with the matches". The climax of the programme was on the 6th March, the day against bullying, when there was a performance based on Boal's techniques. The play was written by the studentsof the sixth grade and dealt with incidents of bullying in school.During the performance there was a narrator(Joker in Boal's terms) who stopped action and made questions to the students about what could be done to avoid bullying. After that, the scene was played again with the new version the students had already proposed each time either with the same actors or with new ones from the audience. Simultaneously, there was a preparation for the mobility to Croatia.Three teachers travelled, the Headmistress, the Music teacher and the English teacher who were picked because they were fully aware of the students' problems in school and they could transmute their newly acquired knowledge as a tool against marginalisation. The quality and mobility certificates were prepared, also the Europass mobility. After the seminar was completed it was presented to the other teachers in power point. The results were posted on the school's blog, the local press, the Erasmus+ platform, etwinning and Facebook. Next year the teachers of the school applied for the KA2 with partners the organisation in Croatia which hosted the seminar and the teachers they met at that seminar. In the new programme they will use Boal's methods to dramatise novels of their countries dealing with the refugee problem. The students will use this method for a second time but in a different perspective this time. They will be partakers of an innovative way to solve problems of the modern society which will help them in similar cases in their lives.
