EKOenergy for Czech Republic
Start date: Sep 1, 2015, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

EKOenergy is a network of European NGOs focussing on the promotion of renewable electricity. EKOenergy is also an ecolabel for electricity supplied to consumers (households, corporate consumers, others). EKOenergy is the only electricity label that results from a pan-European consultation process, which works on the whole European market and is recognized by stakeholders in all European countries. Last year, we have made big steps forward (See www.ekoenergy.org > annual report 2014). A lot of this progress happened thanks to the active participation of volunteers, in particular EVS volunteers based at the EKOenergy Secretariat. This new project is a follow up of 8 earlier EVS projects. We want to inform stakeholders about the liberalised electricity market and about how they can use (or not use) this market to make the electricity sector more sustainable. We want to set steps forward in Czech Republic. We have enthusiastic friends in Czech Republic, but we we haven't been able yet to invest enough time and energy to develop joint projects. We will also spend time on communicating about the new Greenhouse Gas Protocol Scope 2 standard (carbon accounting for purchased electricity) which has been published in January 2015. This is particularly relevant for many of the corporate consumers with whom we are in contact. Besides, the volunteer will get opportunities to participate in other activities of the Finnish Association of Nature Conservation in order to get opportunities to differentiate the experiences and to get to know different (young) people. The volunteers are embedded in the EKOenergy team (which is a part of the Environment Protection Department of the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation).
