During the rehearsals for our Christmas Show the idea for an English theatre project came up. It is always amazing how many abilities the children show while free of judgement. Children are able to realize that good feelings will develop when they work together and not against one another. The last show at the Raben-Schule was a short form of the opera "Hänsel & Gretel", performed by two classes on the fourth level. In most cases we nowadays have only one class on one level so that we must work together with children of different levels. That is nothing new and a tradition at our school . We can use this kind of work for a theatre project, too. Having several English teachers at our school the team decided to establish an English theatre workshop meant as the basis for bringing an English play on stage. If we succeed in implementing the theatre workshop we we can probably bring more than one show on stage in the following years.We want to reach the following aims:1) Implementing an English theatre workshop, planning and realizing an English play on stage.2) Improving the knowledge of our teachers concerning the English language and improving our teaching methods. 3) Showing that even small primary schools can do good work.Four of our teachers (incl. the headmistress) want to participate in the project. Among them are three handicapped teachers and we have to see if they are healthy enough to go abroad. There are three English teachers and one Music teacher in the group. The courses we need will be provided by the "International Study Programmes". Because of the small number of teachers at our school only two can go abroad together at the same time. The Music teacher and the headmistress will decide which play to choose. Perhaps we will find material while participating in the drama-course for primary teachers in Southampton.
