Egalité homme - femme en Europe
Start date: Jan 4, 2016, End date: Jul 3, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Royal Abbey of St Jean d'Angély has been the place for an European encounter with 60 youngsters from France, Luxembourg and Spain. From 4th to 13rd April 2016, the students worked on "Gender Equality in Europe". The programme (annexe 1) has been prepared with all teachers. This programme allowed to meet together youngsters from diferent social areas and diferent cultures. Thanks to the repartition in the diferents rooms, all students took the time to speak together and discovering themselves. They are also mixed for all meals but they organised alone their repartition during the stay. During this European exchange, we planned debates with professionals involved in the Gender Equality. For example, we received representatives from two non-governmental organisations like Pour qu'elle revienne and Atelier du regard. One treated the questions by the game and the other choosed the girls and boys relationships theme. It was wonderful moments shared by the students and teachers. Some youngsters choosed to be the spokesman to resume these activities (annexes 2 - 3) . The students participated also to a European debate about the current affairs with Mr Michel Caniaux, a member of a RCF Radio : each class room prepared two or three questions to discuss with the other nationalities (annexe 4) . Finally the students were more interested by the Migrants and Brexit. The pupils wrote also a synthesis about this activity (annexe 5). All the text has been written by the students in French. They insisted to work with this language in order to improve their expression. Then, for the French students, it was important to help their new friends. This creates another cohesion and cooperation in the group. They helped together to enable everybody to participate. Thanks to this experience, the students are more confident to express him/herself in public in mother tongue or in english or in french. They know how to explain their opinion. They know it is important to listen in order to be listened by the others. Some of them have new projects for their future (travels, study, etc.). You can consult their reports prepared by groups (annexe 6, 7 and 8). This European travel allows also students to discover the artistic activiy : they have been sensibilized by the Theatre, Dance and Video. Professional artists organised workshops with them : they are mixed by nationalities and we tried to respect a Gender repartition. It was difficult because there more girls than boys for this encounter. The Artistic projects was a successfull. The inhabitants and partners come to see the vernissage of all workshops. A lot of emotion for students who have been congratulated by the public. Some French families come to see the show. Teachers saw the changes in their pupils too. At the end of the project, we organised an award ceremony to celebrate the students' work. They prepared a European buffet in order to taste the specialities from Spain, France and Luxembourg but also all the nationalities represented in the Luxembourg group. It was another moment to enhance the diversity of Europe.
