EFFECTIVE USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHING
Start date: Dec 31, 2015, End date: Dec 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

In Turkey, FATIH Project (Movement to Increase Opportunities and Technology) has been carried out since 2010 at especially high schools. With this project our school was equipped with smart boards and every teacher and half of our students have tablets. However our teachers are not fully capable of using technology in the classrooms even they got a local in-service-training course. Also, tablets and other web 2.0 tools have not used for educational purposes yet. On the other hand, with developing technology, new innovative teaching models such as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) and Flipped Classroom models have been using at some schools. With young, passionate, and experienced staff, our school has enough infrastructure to develop school policy according to integrate these teaching models to our curriculum. So, for our institution, we decided to send our 18 teachers and 2 management staff for a series of international training courses about Benchmarking, STEM, use of tablets, and use of technology in the classroom. To expertise and improve their knowledge 7 teachers and 1 management staff will join two different job shadowing mobility about STEM and effective use of technology and social networks on teaching. Teachers will be chosen according to convenience of their teaching area with training course topic. If there are more than one teacher at the same branch, we will choose them by using transparent and fair selection tool according to their motivation and contribution to the project. During training courses participants will focus on best teaching and management practices at different European countries and improving school policy according to developing teaching technologies, integration of STEM model by using tablets, using BYOD model in the classroom and Flipped classroom model in and out of classroom. Participants also improve their competences of effective use of teaching technology and improve their foreign language skills. During the job shadowing activities, participants will practice their experiences they get with the courses. They will see on site how schools implement STEM and technology integration in the classroom. The courses will use a wide variety of communicative activities to develop language competence and will also raise participants’ awareness of how technology can be used in the classroom. Participants gain confidence in using technology through practical sessions which equip them with ideas and materials that they can use upon their return to the country. Participants will also visit a few schools during the courses for benchmarking and see the implementation on site. They will take part in seminars, workshops, lectures, open discussions and a study visit during term time. With attending these training courses and job shadowing, our teacher are more conscious and motivated to use technological tools in their classes, change their teaching techniques with new innovative models and improve themselves professionally. By integrating these new teaching models and tablet use into our development plan and curriculum, our school will be a leader on digitalization at our region. These participants will guide to other teachers and they will also be informed about new approaches of using technology. In the long term, all our teachers will use technological devices especially smart boards, tablets and e-learning tools effectively by integrating new teaching models, they will be able to create their own authentic online teaching materials and they will leave traditional teaching methods. Our school will take part in more etwinning and Erasmus plus projects for to be more international and create strong ties with different European schools.
