EDUGLOCAL - Formal and Informal Global Education for social and civic skills
Start date: Nov 1, 2013,

We believe that the school systems of Europe need to develop civic and social competences in the younger generations towards a sustainable development. This is of primary importance for the future of humanity itself. So “Think global - act local – learn ‘glocal’” is the motto of the project. We aim to engage teachers, school leaders and young people in thinking and reflecting upon global problems whilst acting locally. “Glocal Education” needs: at cultural level, an holistic and inter – disciplinary approach; at pedagogical level, active and workshop – based methods. For this purpose, Eduglocal joins expertise of Partners of both formal and informal educational system, in order to produce - using a participative methodology – the following outputs: • A model for “mapping” the educational resources existing in a given local community and to establish formal and sustainable “alliances” between schools and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs); • A manual for Glocal Education, in three versions: on line hypertext, iBook and hardcopy;• A training Path for teachers and school leaders, built on the basis of the training needs analysis, tested through five experimental courses and - at the end - improved on the basis of the experimentation; • As "Teacher Training on the job", a series of workshops and experiences of volunteering that involve their students; • A research on the change that happen in teachers and students involved in “Glocal Education”.Definitely, Eduglocal connects formal and informal education to build those civic and social competences that are the basis for a responsible and active citizenship in the World of the XXI Century. The testing and validation phase will directly involve about 100 teachers and school leaders and 2,500 students. Through a wide process of dissemination and mainstreaming, it is expected that the project’s results and outputs, in the following period, will be used by thousands of schools and teachers.
