Educational tool to integrate inmates

The condition of inmates or ex-inmates is one of the most difficult in terms of integration:in such a context, education is a powerful instrument for inmates and ex-inmates; it iseven more important and significant if it is developed as an alternative educationalpathway, able to combine the learning methods together with the in-service experience,in order to profit of the formal as well as non-formal and informal educational process toencourage the reintegration of prisoners and ex-inmates into the labour market. The main objective of the project is to develop an alternative educational pathway forinmates and ex-inmates, providing a combination of tools:- an educational programme, with learning methods and pedagogical materials, able toprovide them with the linguistic, cultural, social, civic and professional knowledge, competences and skills;-a in-service experience, a sort of working practice in the care and social sector, throughthe tutoring service of local associations and organisations involved in the provision ofsocial services to people in need of care (elderly, disabled). The project will design, identify, test, evaluate and disseminate an Educational Toolkit, aimed at developing both the educational process and the working experience in thecare and social services sector. Beneficiaries of the project are ex-inmates (recently outof prison and in need of support) and inmates (who may access to alternative measuresto imprisonment, which give an opportunity to those convicted of an offence to servesome or all of a sentence of imprisonment outside prison). Expected results and impactsof the project are forecast in: 1. the reinforcement of networking, with associations andNGOs involved in the social sector (so called Third Sector), and organisations in thefield of education and prison environment; 2. the application of the principles of theRestorative Justice, as a possible model for the resolution of the consequences of acrime; 3. the development of an innovative prevention strategy to reduce the levels ofre-offending, by the identification of a new direction for the civic and social coexistenceof disadvantaged, by the mutual relations that normally set up in the care servicessector.
