Education beyond borders - training in retail businesses in Dublin
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Project background Vestfyns Handelsskole og Handelsgymnasium, 6 other Danish business schools and Alpha College in Ireland have worked strategically with internationalisation for some years and it is a part of their profile to offer stays abroad to students at the vocational education of office assistants and sales assistants. The aim is to support and develop the students into having more skills and being more mobile. The schools have worked together for a while and in 2008, a cooperation with the Bestseller Company started sending students on internships in Bestseller stores in Dublin, Ireland for 3 weeks. The stays are one of the optional courses on the last year of the education. In this project, 40 students will get a language course and an internship in Bestseller and Ecco stores in Dublin for 3 weeks. We have a tight cooperation with the stores about which learning objectives the students have to achieve. Two teachers are accompanying the students and they visit the students in the stores twice within the stay to follow up on the use of the learning objectives. The students will receive a Europass after the stay as documentation. An internship abroad has a learning potential both when it comes to language skills and sales skills, which do not match the teaching in the school. In the store the students learn more about, how professional terms, primarily from the subjects; English, Sales & Services, bookkeeping and social studies, are used in practice furthermore in another culture. The students get a broader perspective of internationalisation, mobility and not least possibilities of education abroad. The stay also matures the students.
