Education Against Racism
Start date: Nov 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project took place in comunities of Spain, Italy, Rumania and Poland, that colaborated to develop methods and activities to prevent, detect and fight against the ¨invisible racism¨ in educational centres. The invisible racism consists on racist or discriminatory attitudes that are naturalized or socially accepted. EAR proposed an intersectoral approach between non-govermental organisations with experience in non-formal education and projects on human rights and interculturality in schools and educational centres. It took place a training course to work the theme of invisible racism and the non-formal methods in the classroom with teachers and youth workers (totally 20 participants). During this training course, we reached a common understanding of what ¨invisible racism¨ means and how to detect it and educate to prevent it, epecially promoting the ¨good treatment¨. 4 youth workers carried out mobilities to collect information on the reality that youngsters live and on the activities that are realized in the organisations and institutions and also, to impart workshops for teachers on the non-formal educational methods and to teachers and students on the Erasmus+ program and about invisible racism. These youth workers participated in an international reunion to create a structure of the tool-kit, that afterwards they were responsible to develop, with the support of the coordinator. In this tool-kit have been clarified concepts on what it is invisible racism and the non-formal education, so that to explain how it can be applied in the classroom and to present dynamics that can be used by the profesors. It ends with a sociological reflection on the reality that the young people face in the different places that were involved. This tool-kit was presented in international conferences on each country in which attented totally 249 people. Therefore, with this project has been achieved an increase in the quality of teaching in the schools, profesionals with new competences and forces, a fruitful colaboration between formal and non-formal education that permited the appreciation of learning in various levels and with different methods. Also, it permited major sensibilisation to the topic of racism and promotion of the interculturality and the tolerance in the classrooms. In long-term the tool-kit may be used to european level for profesors, educational profesionals and youth workers. Also it will generate a colaboration between profesionals of formal and non-formal education, which results very positive in the moment of creating global strategies of education, inclusion and capacities of the young people. The objectives of this project were Raise awareness of the existence of invisible racism and consious in our society, especially between the youngsters in the concept of non-formal education. Spread the concept of invisible racism , as well as educative materials to detect it, prevent it and fight against it in the classrooms, at national and european level. Strengthen the working networks between formal and non-formal education at european level. Promote the Erasmus+ program between the young people and educational profesionals, especially the KA2. We think that these objectives have been largely achieved and the impact of the project was big, due to that we were introduced in educational institutions, that ignore or have prejudices toward the non-formal education and in this way we also reached a large number of people. As the duration of the project was cut, we have decided that the workers that made the mobility were those who would carry it out, making also workshops for profesors. In this way it was ensured that all the objectives were reached, regardless we had less time to do it.
