Education Against Marginalisation
Start date: Oct 1, 2009,

In several parts of Europe like Eastern-Europe, Southern-Europe, but also regarding immigrants in the North of Europe marginalization of minority-groups is one of the biggest threats of European society. One of the most difficult challenges in Europe is social inclusion of these minority-groups in nowadays society. These European inhabitants (incl. unemployed, elderly and low-educated) experience (intercultural) problems to participate and being active in society. For these people there should be European possibilities to learn in later life, because education can provide active involvement in society to overcome barriers to social inclusion. The main aim of the project "Education against Marginalization" (EDAM) is to create the first European database of Life Long Learning in the world and to enhance effective learning-environments for minority-groups based on the contents of this database and the development of materials and training for teachers and policy-makers. From this scientific database the consortium of EDAM can provide working-material for teachers and policy-makers to realise and continue adult education for minority groups and the European Commission has a tool to construct policy-making for LLL. Insight of outcome of education will be gained by this new scientific research in every participating country for specified minority-groups. Based on these results success-factors of a learning-environment will be described and translated in a training for local teachers and a uniform evaluation-model. Every country will use it during training-sessions for minority-groups to optimize social inclusion. A dissemination-plan will ensure implementation of these materials in Europe with a special focus on countries in Eastern-Europe and the members of the EFTA. By this EDAM will realise a first educational European framework for minority-groups and create new chances for minority groups to learn in Europe and to fight against their marginalisation.
